Very nice detailing here, are you gonna "fix" the load because the engine is at the rear?

Re: Tamiya 1/35 GMC 6x6 CCKW 353
Yeah, it needs fixin' though I think the actual engine on the thing is rather short and most of that is tube to focus the thrust. The fuel tank is in the mid section just in front of the cockpit so I assume most of the weight is towards the front. The hole on the sides runs through the fuel tank and will make for a good tie-down spot. I'm certainly bending the truth some but if the GIs found one of these things a light launch point in the forest you'd need to get it out somehow.
Looking at the photos I think I'm going to rebuild the frame...

Way kewl project Bryan!
just catchin up.....Love the whole deal
re: the linked ref.--Nice & fully restored--I wouldn't expect your "recovered example" loaded on the truck to not necessarily have [every] fitting in place, right?

Most of the parts over the V1 in the video look like a rack to lift it with a crane, not part of the V1 itself, don't you think?

Yes. The V1 had a top mount attachment point. I'm not concerned with the junk on top. It looks to be purpose built and probably not very "accurate" If you watch the video, there are good views of the fuel cap, fuselage bolts, wing flaps and inside the canopy in the video. I took a number of screen grabs.

What a fantastic build! I drove a Semi of that version in Nam. We used it to pull a Cattle Car flat bed trailer with the sides built up and wood bench seats to haul troops around the Air Base. Wish I could find one in 1:25 scale.

Re: Tamiya 1/35 GMC 6x6 CCKW 353
Thanks Bruce.
Looks like I'm going to need a little red rag hanging from the exhaust. Don't want to get a ticket.
I'm about finished with the pigment and mud work on the 6x6. Most of the topside dirt is MIG pigments with some AK enamels flicked about. I still need to add the missing fuel cans and straps. The Flieseler has been painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathering with oil paints. It needs a little dust to replicate a unit that had been sitting around for a little while. The scene envisioned is the V1 was found abandoned at a forward light launch site. These were most of the time basic set ups with a launch rail and a shed tucked away into clearings in forests or fields.
And a few more of just the truck

Re: Tamiya 1/35 GMC 6x6 CCKW 353
Not much of an update this Monday except I finished painting Goofus and Gallant and placed them in the cab. The passenger needs to be seated properly. I wasn't trying to ride the wave of primer red finishes but I like red-ish brown color of the barrel. Honestly this was intended only a primer coat for more rust colors before using the HS technique. It's a nice bit of color to an otherwise drab color pallet. Lots of little touch ups are still needed and then I can finish up the weathering.
The V1 has been fixed in the bed and chained in place. It still needs a bit of rope around the tail end.

Thanks John and Ivan. I secured the model back to the block of wood so I wouldn't mess up the finish manhandling it.

Re: Tamiya 1/35 GMC 6x6 CCKW 353
Hi there Brian,
As John says, the barrel is a nice touch. I like the many different shades of green in the GMC as well as the Fieseler. They complement each other.
Q: I may have overread this, but did you shortcut the Fieseler for "modelling reasons" or where they actually build with removable noses?
greetings, Richard.

Re: Tamiya 1/35 GMC 6x6 CCKW 353
Thanks Richard. The "nose" is the bomb section. There are a couple of photos of V1s with this section missing and the central fuel tank visible. The bomb section was held on with at least 5 bolts that ran parallel to the central axis.
Check the link I posted for the restored V1.
Far more interesting is the two seater version. This bomb section was replaced with a longer nose with room for a "pilot". I've only seen one photo of this.

Love it. There is a nice contrast between the earthy warm colors of the truck and the colder and cleaner of the plane. Well done!

Yes I agree, the different colours and such really look great without clashing. Really a lovely piece!
