    Hi JT,

Great build !! love it... is that home brew zimm,(Milliput or similar)or is it Atak resin ? hard to tell... those resin WW11 Production tracks (I think ) look ace to !

The paintwork looks good at this stage to buddy, are you painting the removed additional armour plate a different colour ?

Ohhh,. very professional builiding and the painting is going very atractive!

About the zimmerit chips...I recomend you to paint the rmains of the old zimmerit, with grey tones over the red primer color....

    Good work!

    Thanks fellas! Very Happy

Hi Carlos, The zim is home brewed, the tracks are WWII Productions, and I was planning on doing the additional armour in a different colour I think. It was a field mod.

Thanks Tobias, more pics to follow.

Hi Mig, thanks very much for that advice, Great idea!

    How do fellas
Here is some more progress. The dark chipping was done with a dark brown Vallejo Model Color and a good quality 5/0 brush.

I also changed the primer to grey, sorry if it's the wrong shade. But it will change with weathering anyway.

There was also some translucent shading added by airbrush.

    Hi folks

Having fun with the weathering, my favourite part. After chipping, a coat of Vallejo 71058 varnish was airbrushed overall, thinned with soapy water so it goes on thin and smooth.

Following that I got going with some AK Interactive weathering products I got my grubby little hands on recently. 'Damp Earth' and 'Fresh Mud' were thinned further with White Spirit to make pin washes and general shadow effects. 'Rust Streaks' was used to make rust streaks and stains around heavy chipping. 'Kursk Earth' and 'Dust Effects' were mixed and used for highlights and dust, and drybrushed on areas of the zimmerit.
    DML Panther A IMG_3350

The washes were allowed to dry for a day or two, then a coat of Humbrol Matt Varnish was airbrush overall.

    Hi Rob
Thanks heaps, that's some awesome praise from the rust master!

There's more work to do on the tools and spare tracks, running gear of coarse and the spaced armour, so...back to it I guess.

This is super nice build, love the zimm and great work overall.

I do have to ask on the exposed primer under the zimm, an A model Panther would have been in red primer. Are you going off of new info, I've not heard of anything being grey until the very last zinc chromate primered tanks in 45. Only main gun barrels were primed in a special grey heat resistant primer, all else was red oxide with zimm applied directly on top.

Hate to stir the ol' primer debate...

    Best,

    Thanks Mike
I'm not sure about the primer colour, I was going with info I read on this forum. https://akinteractive.forumotion.com/t102-damage-chipping

Anyway, I don't want to stir up the paint pot either, If it's wrong I won't loose sleep over it.

    Hi JT,

I've gone back an added some thoguhts to help clarify that thread, it was a bit on the messy side with info being tossed about somewhat, which can cause problems for "new to armor" modelers, especially those coming from aircraft where colors can be even trickier. Once you know the guidelines it is fairly straightforward from there. Smile

Actually it is a very easy fix and I'd take the time to hand paint those large grey chips under the zimm red. It would be worth it in the end...

    Best,

    Thanks Carl.

Some more progress. The anti-aircraft armour has been painted, some using the hairspray technique. The turret armour was painted with oil paints, with pigments dabbed into the wet paint.

    Thanks guys.

Here is another update, I used AK Interactive's Heavy Mud Weathering Set to get the dirt on this kitty.
The set comes with some plaster powder, which was mixed with the enamel effects paint to make the mud. I made several different shades. (I should mention that I experimented with other effects paints that weren't in this set, the dust effects paint for example.)
    DML Panther A IMG_3408

The brush was loaded with some mud and held in front of the model, then the air from the airbrush was blown through the brush to produce mud spatter.
    DML Panther A IMG_3413

    Oh yeah, so dirty!
