Re: DML Panther A
I've got a question.
I saw where Meg recomended you to paint the remains of the old zimmerit, with grey tones over the red primer color. after that I saw in some pictures you did have gray over the red primer then in the finished pictures they were back to red primer but not as red as the first. How did you do that? I just want to make sure I understand what Mig met and how you did it.

Re: DML Panther A
Hi Charlie, I'm afarid I got myself confused. I believe the steel primer should be red but the chipped zim light grey. I thought Mig meant that the steel primer should be grey so I repainted it grey. Then when I realised what he meant I painted the primer red again. It was just done by hand with a fine brush.

Re: DML Panther A
Ok, I tought maybe you used a kind of gray wash on the red primer that later falten out the red.
What I thought Meg met was as zimmerit is knocked off there are still some reminds on there and they have a gray color. Think of it this way. Put on some white paster on a red model and after it drys for a couple days knock off some, you will see some paster left behind, like small pieces of white and dust on the red model.
Maybe Mig will come back on.
Either way that is great work and I hope to get that good.

Re: DML Panther A
Mate Just come across this. It's real inspiration and probably the best panther I've seen.
Can you give us a bit of a step by step(oils & pigments used, if you remember) on how you did Anti Aircraft armour
Regards
Rodney

Re: DML Panther A
Hi fellas, many thanks! This was the first job I posted on this forum.
Gday Crossy, the AA armour were done either one of two ways. Some had the hairspray technique as you can see, they were supposed to represent plates that had been scavenged from schurtzen and had remains of dark yellow on them. Base coat was Vallejos with an enamel varnish over the top.
These days I wouldn't use Vallejos for the top coat but this was before I knew Tamiya paints are better.
Originally the large rusty plate was done by the HS technique but I didn't like it. So it was painted with oils into which I dabbed pigments before the oils dried.
That's about it as far as I can recall. HTH!
Cheers

Thanks John, the Tutorial helps heaps. Just wondering what Tamyia colours would you use? As once i know what colours are used I can usually make me own variations(failed art at school LOL).
What your next project?

Re: DML Panther A
Thanks guys for your great comments
Gday Crossy, I usually use Tamiya XF-60 for german dark yellow. For rust, I start by mixing yellow XF-3 and red XF-7 to make orange, then add various amounts of black XF-1 to get different shades of rust.
I'm plugging away on the Mini Cooper now, but haven't decided what to do next. Lots of ideas though...
Hi Bernd, not completely sure but the Dragon Panthers are pretty good. PMMS is a great site for kit reviews:
